Cinder Blocks / Construction Blocks
The Crack Doctor Services All Types of Block Foundations
There are many types of block foundations, including cinder block and construction blocks. In these cases, the foundation wall is hollow; this means the blocks have empty chambers which can fill with water and travel through the foundation wall. This makes it hard to tell where the wall is leaking from; the source of the leak can be many feet away from where the water finally seeps into the basement.
Fortunately, The Crack Doctor has the experience to know how to properly correct problems and provide guaranteed basement waterproofing with leaking cinder block or construction block foundations.
How The Crack Doctor Rescues Cinder and Construction Block Foundations
There are two methods of correction that The Crack Doctor uses:
- External excavation and waterproofing: Since cinder block and construction block is hollow, excavation must be performed for the full length of the wall. If the leak is at the corner, then two full length walls will need to be excavated. The earth is excavated to the footing exposing the weeping tile. Shoring is put in place as law requires preventing the earth from collapsing on workers, and the wall is power washed. Holes and cracks are repaired and missing mortar is replaced. The weeping tile is often replaced and waterproof membranes are installed covering the foundation. The shoring is removed and the excavation is back filled. The ground is then compacted and graded.
- Internal sub-floor drainage system (French drain): This type of drainage system involves creating a trench through the basement floor along the edge of the leaking walls, and installing drainage pipes under the floor. Drainage holes are drilled in the bottom row of blocks under the floor to drain water from the hollow wall. A white interior waterproof membrane is installed from floor to ceiling and it connects to the drainage system under the floor. New concrete is poured to repair the floor and the system is often connected to a sump pump creating active drainage
